Looking for a treatment for gout? Gout can be incredibly painful but is unfortunately more common than you realize and can happen to anyone.

What is Gout?

Gout is a type of arthritis that is caused when a buildup of uric acid crystallizes, leaving deposits in your joints.

Symptoms often present themselves suddenly, most commonly at night. They include severe pain, swelling, and redness in and around the joints. Attacks can be so painful that even your sheets may cause intense discomfort.

Lingering pain can last up to a few weeks after a severe attack occurs. As gout conditions worsen, you may experience a limited range of motion within affected joints.

How KRYSTEXXA Can Help

KRYSTEXXA helps to alleviate gout symptoms differently than most other treatments. The majority of gout treatments attempt to reduce or remove uric acid from the body. However, KRYSTEXXA converts uric acid into a substance that is easily passed from your body when you urinate. This helps to rapidly lower uric acid levels and dissolve the buildup of any crystals they have created.

Recent studies have shown a dramatic decrease in uric acid levels when patients receive KRYSTEXXA. In fact, within 24 hours of a KRYSTEXXA treatment, patients saw an average uric acid level of 1mg/dL. During two 6-month studies, 42% of the patients who received a KRYSTEXXA treatment were able to keep their uric acid levels below 6mg/dL for at least six months. (For the rest, they were able to keep their uric acid levels below 6mg/dL for 7 weeks.) Furthermore, 45% of these patients had at least one cluster of uric acid buildup, known as a tophi, disappear complete over the course of six months. (These patients also did not have any additional or worsening tophi during this time.)

KRYSTEXXA is a prescription medication that must be administered in a healthcare facility. Allergic reactions may occur within two hours of your treatment. It is important to let your doctor know if you have ever suffered from a rare blood disorder known as glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), heart problems or high blood pressure, are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding.
